We're still uncertain about the iPhone 5, especially since the rumor mill has started spinning like crazy, churning out speculations like anything. No one definitively knows about the iPhone 5 release and Apple has still yet to make an official announcement. That aside, rumors about the iPhone 6 are already afloat. A Japanese newpaper report claims that the iPhone 6 will come with a touchscreen manufactured by Sharp at the facility where it generally makes LCD TVs, and that the new screen is going to be drastically thinner.
It is believed that Sharp will start manufacturing this new touchscreen in 2012, at its Kameyama manufacturing facility. The material that will be used to create this new type of screen for iPhone 6 will be a kind of low temperature polysilicon.
The report claims that the technology and machinery required for manufacturing these screens has already started arriving at the facility and mass production of this new iPhone 6 touchscreen will start in 2012. There're a lot of benefits if the screen itself is radically thinner on the iPhone 6. First and foremost, the device itself, will be extraordinarily thin. Keeping in mind that Apple's iPhone 4 was the self-proclaimed thinnest smartphone on the planet, there is little doubt that Apple wouldn't want to clinch that title once again.
The other benefits of having a thinner screen, would be extra space to add more storage onboard the device. With the exceeding number of apps and other content that people like to store on their device, the sixth-generation iPhone will definitely need a lot of storage capacity onboard. The extra space can also be used, perhaps for perfecting an internal antenna design in such a way that the next generation iPhone supports all carriers in the U.S.
But first, let's just hope that Apple announces the finer details about the iPhone 5 release soon. We can worry about the iPhone 6, when the iPhone 5 is out and in our hands.
