Here's a breather! Everyone was confused when Apple announced delta updates for iOS 5 as to what it meant for jailbreakers. As of now, we jailbreak the latest iOS firmware by either creating a custom IPSW of it, or through greenpois0n or redsn0w. So how would we jailbreak iPhone iOS 5 when its baseband can only be preserved manually? MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has the answer.
For those of you who don't know what delta updates are: In delta update, instead of downloading the whole firmware file, only the changes are downloaded. Hence making it more easier to upgrade firmware on the device without having the need to connect it to a computer.
He just tweeted:
over-the-air delta updates of iOS should be fine for JBers (even if Apple didn't let you disable them, the JB itself can)
We don't know for sure now whether or not Apple will provide an option to turn off ota updates for iOS 5. Nevertheless, MuscleNerd explains that even if that option is not provided, we can still disable ota update by jailbreaking the device.
What this means is that there is a strong possibility of iOS 5 being jailbroken as well. Let's see who's the first one to come out with an iOS 5 jailbreak!
