Apple announced iOS 5 yesterday with over 200 amazing new features. The public release of iOS 5 is slated for Fall 2011. This post will teach you how to update your Apple TV 2G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1G, 2G and iPod touch 3G, 4G on iOS 5 beta 1.
Remember: These procedures are of advance level. If you're not aware of the intricacy of these steps, it is advised that you do not try this at all. Unlocked iPhone users, please don't try this, as you will regret it. Locked iPhone users, start copying the procedure.
Installing iOS 5 beta 1 on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
- Download the corresponding iOS 5 beta 1 firmware file for your respective iOS device.
- Extract the IPSW on your desktop.
- Connect the iOS device to your computer.
- You have to get the UDID registered on the iPhone Developer program. (Here's how to do that)
- Once you've done that, start iTunes. Press and hold the Shift key (for Windows) or Option key (for Mac) and click Restore.
- Navigate to the path where you have save the iOS 5 beta 1 IPSW.
- Now sit back and let iTunes install iOS 5 beta 1 on your device.
You'll be out of your mind to attempt this upgrade on an unlocked iPhone. Even those iPhone users which are locked to AT&T and Verizon need to get their UDID registered before they can upgrade to iOS 5 beta 1.
Those who have the Apple TV 2G, iPod touch, 3G and 4G in the case of iOS 5, don’t need UDID registrations. However, they will not be able to sync their iPod touch running iOS 5 beta 1 with iTunes. So if you just want some hands on time with iOS 5 beta 1 and don’t actually care about syncing with iTunes, simply download the iOS 5 beta 1 IPSW for iPod touch and do a restore using iTunes 10.5 beta.
Make sure that you have dumped SHSH blobs of the current firmware on your device. Because if you like a firmware that’s older than iOS 4.3.3, you won’t be able to downgrade back to it using iTunes. For that matter, follow our detailed iFaith tutorial to downgrade iOS device back to any older iOS firmware.
That's all you need to know in order to upgrade your device to iOS 5 beta 1. However, should you encounter any problems, drop us a line in the comments and we'll help you out immediately.
