Enable iOS 5 Beta 1 Multitasking Gestures On iPad 1

The iPad 2 is going to get Multitasking Gestures in iOS 5. However, if you have the original iPad, iOS 5 won't be bringing Multitasking Gestures for you. No need to worry, as this article will show you exactly how to enable iOS 5 beta multitasking gestures on your iPad 1.

Back in the day when Apple seeded iOS 4.3 to developers, there was a new option found in the Settings.app of Multitasking Gestures. Multitasking Gestures lets you use four or five fingers to swipe between apps, reveal the multitasking tray and pinch to close apps. When iOS 4.3 came out for public, this option was missing. The only way to activate them was via a jailbreak. Now iPad 2 owners will get Multitasking Gestures when iOS 5 releases later this year, but iPad 1 owners will be left behind. So taking the obviously way of the jailbreak, you can indeed enable iOS 5 Multitasking Gestures on your iPad 1.

The very first thing that you need to do, is to download iOS 5 beta 1, then activate iOS 5 beta 1 and then restore it on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Here's how you can set it up PC free after it has been restored to iOS 5 beta 1. After than, proceed to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 1 with redsn0w 0.9.8b1 for Mac, Windows users have to wait until a tool is out for them. Now after you have done all of this, there're basically two ways of enabling iOS 5 beta Multitasking Gestures on iPad 1. You have to edit the K848AP.plist file to add code that will make Multitasking Gestures work on your iPad 1.

How to get to the K848AP.plist file? You either SSH in to your device, or purchase iFile from Cydia. If you're a Mac user, TextWrangler is your friend. Chose any of these methods and navigate to this directory in the filesystem: /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app and from there, select the K848AP.plist file. Once the file has opened, you have to make this addition: multitasking-gestures.

That's all you need to enable multitasking gestures on iOS 5 beta running iPad 1. Please do not hesitate to ask us for help if you face any problems during this procedure.

This is where you have to go to: /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app

then from there, select the K848AP.plist file and add multitasking-gestures in there.

    I didn’t have K848AP.plist either, but I just opened K48AP.plist, added

rebooted my device, and then the option to turn it on/off should be in options. I did this on an iPad 1

this is such stupid fucking instructions. clearly no one understands what to do. just “add” it to the plist file, because that makes so much sense

I didn’t need to enter a whole new line, there were two “multitasking-gestures” and “multitasking-gestures-default-off” lines in my K48AP.plist file. I changed the “multitasking-gestures” to “true” and Multitasking-gestures-default-off” to “false”
