Whenever iOS beta firmware releases, non-developers seem to be a little more excited to get their hands on it, as compared to developers who have official access to iOS beta firmware. There's a catch here though. If the UDID of your device is not activated, it can not run beta firmware. Or can it? When iOS 5 beta 1 released and we provided direct download links and we also told you a way to activate iOS 5 beta 1 without a developer account. So why not the same for iOS 5 beta 2?
However, before you proceed, you must first download iOS 5 beta 2 as well as download iTunes 10.5 beta 2 and upgrade your iOS device to it.
Also, let's understand what UDID activation is all about. Basically, as i previously mentioned, beta firmware is only officially available to registered developers. Now to register as a developer, you have to pay a $99 fee per year, which isn't exactly feasible for all those who just want to use the beta firmware. The UDID of your device, is its unique identifier and it needs to be registered with Apple before it can run beta firmware, else it won't sync with iTunes. To find the UDID of your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, follow our detailed step-by-step guide. Once you have the UDID, you need to get it registered. How to do that if you're not a developer? First, try not to fall for online scams claiming to activate your UDID. All they do is take your money, in most cases, though i have yet to come across a legit service. We're offering free UDID activation for iOS 5 beta, why not try that out?
As a formality, let me caution you that this procedure may be attempted by you at your own risk. iPhoneism won't be held responsible if anything goes wrong.
So here's what you need to do in order to activate iOS 5 beta 2 on iPhone without a developers account:
1. Press the Home button on Activation Screen.
2. Tap "Emergency Call".
3. Dial 112 (or your local emergency call number) and press the Call button.
4. Now, press Home button.
5. Then tap "Touch to return to call"
6. Press Home button. You should now be seeing the Home screen.
7. Open "Phone" app and End Call.
Remember: Since the Emergency call option is only available on the iPhone, you will not be able to do this on iPod touch 3G, 4G, the first generation and second generation iPad.
Enjoy your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS activated on iOS 5 beta 2 without UDID registration, and yes, it works flawlessly with iTunes now too!
[Thanks!]
