Regardless of the earlier report that said Apple had blocked Gevey SIM in iOS 5 beta 2, it turns out that you can indeed unlock iOS 5 beta 2 iPhone 4 using Gevey SIM through a method that is a bit different to the actual method used for unlocking iPhone 4 with Gevey SIM. This how to guide will teach you the whole procedure required for unlocking iPhone 4 on iOS 5 beta 2.
So to unlock iPhone 4 iOS 5 beta 2 using Gevey SIM, you first need to restore your iPhone 4 to iOS 5 beta firmware. Obviously, you need the Gevey Ultra interposer, which you need to buy from Applenberry.
*Note: Please proceed with these steps with extreme caution as they are of the advanced level. Kindly make sure you know the legal implications of Gevey SIM.
Now to unlock your iPhone 4 on iOS 5 beta 2, you first need to downgrade it to iOS 4.3.3. No fancy procedures required for that as iOS 4.3.3 is the most recent iOS firmware and simply restoring through iTunes will downgrade your iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.3 and will even bring down the baseband to 4.10.01 from 4.10.06 (iOS 5 beta 2 baseband) as 4.10.01 is required for Gevey SIM to work.
After doing that, cook a custom iOS 5 beta 2 ipsw using Sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 3. If you don't know how to create a custom ipsw, follow our guide on making custom ipsws using sn0wbreeze. Once the ipsw has been made, restore it to your phone. For that, you'll need to connect your iPhone 4 to the computer, turn it off, put it in recovery mode *Restore mode is achieved by first holding both the Power and Home button together for 10 seconds and then releasing the Power button but keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes your iPhone in recovery mode.* and then do a Shift + Restore if you're on Windows or an Alt + Restore if you're on a Mac.
Now here's where the process gets a bit tricky. You shouldn't activate your iPhone with Apple once iOS 5 beta 2 is loaded on it. Follow this guide to bypass iOS 5 beta 2 activation on iPhone 4.
Once you have bypassed iOS 5 beta 2 activation, power off your phone. Now along with Gevey SIM, insert the SIM of your choice. Make sure that Gevey SIM is beneath the SIM card that you intend on using. Once inserted, power on your iPhone 4 and as soon as the signal bar comes up, call 112 but hang up after two seconds. Now go to the Settings.app and toggle Airplane mode ON for around 45 seconds. Do not toggle it OFF until up to 45 seconds have passed and you have ignored all No SIM installed errors that are thrown your way. When the time is up, toggle Airplane mode OFF.
And there you have it, your iPhone 4 unlocked on iOS 5 beta 2.
