Many people right now might be searching for a tutorial on how to save iPad 2 SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella. Specially those who have never used this program before may be alien to the whole concept itself. Not to worry though, as the process is quite easy. This tutorial will teach you in detail how you can save the SHSH blobs of your iPad 2 using TinyUmbrella.
Hold up for a second though. Why should you save the SHSH blobs of your iPad 2? Well you will need them to downgrade iOS firmware back to any previous version. You will also need to save SHSH blobs particularly of iOS 4.3.x right now as downgrading from iOS 5 is going to be impossible meaning that if you upgrade to iOS 5 GM seed, whenever that is released, you will not be able to downgrade back to iOS 4.3.x. Now why would you need to downgrade back to iOS 4.3.x? To jailbreak the iPad 2 of course! Yes, unfortunately, Comex's PDF based iPad 2 jailbreak only supports iOS 4.3 to 4.3.3.
The beta version of JailbreakMe was leaked earlier today and many anxious or rather impatient iPad 2 jailbreakers tried it out for themselves. There has been no word from Comex as to when the official release can take place. You can download the leaked PDF iPad 2 jailbreak from a variety of links spread across the internet. We've added some in our post as well.
Right, so back to saving SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella. If you ask why we can't do this using iFaith, there's a problem with that. iFaith uses the Limera1n exploit to which the iPad 2 is not vulnerable. Meaning that you will not be able to save iPad 2 SHSH blobs using iFaith. Therefore, TinyUmbrella is your friend. Follow the steps documented below to save SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella.
Step 1: Download the latest TinyUmbrella version from here.
Step 2: If you are running Windows 7, you need to make the following changes before you run TinyUmbrella. Please note that if these changes are not made, TinyUmbrella won't function the way its supposed to do.
- Right click on the TinyUmbrella file that you just downloaded and click on Properties.
- Then click on the Compatibility tab
- Check the box which says "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the drop down menu. This setting generally works for everyone.
- Also check "Run this program as an administrator" and then click on Apply
Step 3: Now run TinyUmbrella and click on the Advanced tab. You need to make some changes here as well. As Cydia is ramping down its proxy service and will no longer host SHSH, you need to uncheck "Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit" and "Request SHSH from Cydia."
Step 4: Now click on "Save SHSH" so that TinyUmbrella begins saving available SHSH blobs of your iPad 2, on the computer. This is what you'll notice when TinyUmbrella is working its magic.
Once TinyUmbrella finishes saving SHSH blobs, all of them will be displayed here:
If you're wondering where these SHSH blobs are saved, simply click on the Advanced tab and see the path. You can also change it to any folder of your liking.
That's it! Please note that this procedure is exactly the same for saving SHSH blobs of iPhone and iPod touch. If you face any difficulties in any of the steps, do not hesitate to drop a comment below and our team will help you out in a jiffy.
