Just couple of hours back, Apple seeded iOS 5 beta 3 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch alongside the new iTunes 10.5 beta 3. Now immediately the obvious question came to mind: whether or not it was going to be possible to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3? Previous speculation hinted that Apple may patch jailbreak exploit in iOS 5 beta 3. However on the contrary, it turns out that the version of redsn0w released to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 1, can also jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3.
Apple announced iOS 5 at this years Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. The first beta of iOS 5 was seeded to developers that very day and it was soon revealed by MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team that it was indeed possible to jailbreak iOS 5. Soon after that, redsn0w 0.9.8b1 was released to the public, initially for Mac, so that developers or people who had downloaded iOS 5 beta ipsw online could jailbreak it themselves. The Windows version soon followed suit, and later an upgrade to Sn0wbreeze for Windows came which also brought support for iOS 5 jailbreak.
However, you must bear in mind that this is going to be a tethered jailbreak. Meaning that every time your device reboots or the battery drains, you'll have to connect it to a computer in order to boot tethered. If you can live with that hassle, then by all means jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3 right away. On the other hand, if you don't want to be caught in this hassle, then there's no iOS 5 untethered jailbreak available for you or anyone else at the moment. Its highly unlikely that an untethered exploit will be discovered and developed for iOS beta firmware that usually expires in a couple of weeks.
As previously mentioned, to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3 tethered, we'll be using redsn0w 0.9.8b1:
Step 1: Download iOS 5 beta 3 ipsw for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, also Download iTunes 10.5 beta 3 for Windows and Mac.
Step 2: Restore it on your device
Step 3: Download redsn0w 0.9.8b1 for Windows and Mac
Step 4: Launch redsn0w 0.9.8b1 and select the iOS 5 beta 1 ipsw. We repeat, iOS 5 beta 1 ipsw.
Step 5: Now click on Install Cydia. For the next step, make sure that the device is both powered OFF and plugged in.
Step 6: Put your device in DFU mode:
- Press and hold Power button for three seconds
- Press and hold both Power and Home button for 10 seconds
- Release Power button but keep holding the Home button until redsn0w injects the Limera1n bootrom exploit.
Redsn0w will now do the jailbreak through a series of automated steps. Let it do its work. Once the jailbreak completes, you now have to boot your device tethered.
How To Boot iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Tethered On iOS 5 Beta 3 Using Redsn0w

Step 2: Uncheck Install Cydia and check just boot tethered now, then click on next.

Important: If you're an iPad 2 jailbreaker, you must not upgrade to iOS 5 beta 3, as JailbreakMe 3.0 iPad 2 jailbreak does not work with iOS 5 beta, it only works on iOS 4.3.3, also don't forget to save iPad 2 iOS 4.3.3 SHSH blobs, so that you can downgrade to iOS 4.3.3 in case you ever accidently upgrade your iPad 2. While it is possible that Apple would end the ability to downgrade via saved SHSH blobs in the GoldMaster release of iOS 5.
