Previously we reported that Apple had seeded iOS 5 beta 3 to developers, as well as iTunes 10.5 beta 3. We immediately tried out the new pre-release beta of iOS 5 and even jailbroke it. However, we encountered a lot of issues. Firstly, apps installed from the App Store were not opening. Also, Cydia was extremely buggy and would crash whilst installing any package or repository. Now, the iPhone Dev Team has pushed out an update of redsn0w, which apparently fixes these problems.
Basically, sandbox changes in iOS 5 beta 3 were the reason why we were facing this issue. The iPhone Dev Team got to work quickly and released beta 2 of redsn0w 0.9.8 of both Windows and Mac.
The team writes on their blog:
We’ve updated redsn0w to account for the sandbox changes that affected App Store apps in 5.0b3 (and it now recognizes the IPSWs for all three betas so far). If you already jailbroke 5.0b3 using the previous redsn0w, you don’t need to re-jailbreak…just use this updated version to boot tethered. Start pointing redsn0w at the 5.0b3 IPSW starting with 5.0b3.
You heard the guys, no need to install iOS 5 beta 3 all over again, if you have already jailbroken using redsn0w 0.9.8b1, just use the latest beta of redsn0w to boot tethered, and everything should work fine.
If you rely on a software unlock for your iPhone, please do NOT upgrade to stock iOS 5 beta firmware as no unlock is available for it. Your baseband will upgrade causing you to lose your unlock. No you don't want that to happen, right? Factory/officially unlocked iPhone owners and carrier locked iPhone owners may upgrade without any fear.
Here's what you need to do:
Read our tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3 using redsn0w 0.9.8b1. Follow the procedure mentioned, however there's one little change. Now instead of pointing redsn0w to the iOS 5 beta 1 ipsw, you point it to the iOS 5 beta 3 ipsw. Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 now recognizes all three iOS 5 beta ipsws.
Here's what you'll need:
- Download iTunes 10.5 beta 3 for Windows and Mac
- Download Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 for Windows
- Download Redsn0w 0.9.8b2 for Mac
