It was only yesterday when Apple released iOS 4.3.4 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. While the firmware in question can be jailbroken with custom PwnageTool bundles, what about those who use Windows? For the convenience of kernal hackers, the iPhone Dev Team has released redsn0w 0.9.8 beta 3 which brings tethered iOS 4.3.4 jailbreak on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
Apple released iOS 4.3.4 to patch the JailbreakMe exploit which made jailbreaking a piece of cake for devices running iOS 4.3 or later. The best part about JailbreakMe 3.0 was that it brought a jailbreak for iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.3, and now with this new firmware release, Apple has patched that exploit meaning that IF you upgrade your iPad 2 to iOS 4.3.4, you will lose the jailbreak. Now you don't want that, right?
Devices which are susceptible to the Limera1n bootrom exploit can be jailbroken tethered on iOS 4.3.4 using redsn0w 0.9.8b3. Please do note that this is a tethered jailbreak and will require you to connect your device to the computer whenever you want it to boot up.
The iPhone Dev Team explains:
For the convenience of kernel hackers like @comex and @i0n1c, we have a new redsn0w 0.9.8b3 that supports a TETHERED jailbreak for iOS 4.3.4 on all devices that have 4.3.4 except the iPad2. The vast majority of people will want to stay back at 4.3.3 because that’s where the untethered jailbreak is! There are no new features in 4.3.4 — only fixes for jailbreak exploits.
So if you want to hold on to your iPad 2 jailbreak, don't upgrade. Also if you prefer an untethered jailbreak, stick with iOS 4.3.3 for now. Since there's nothing new in iOS 4.3.4, there's no point in upgrading. To patch the exploit that JailbreakMe 3.0 uses, simply download PDF Patcher 2 from Cydia to close the exploit, once that is done, you device will be safe from any attempts to gain root access using the said exploit.
