Less than a day ago, Apple released iOS 4.3.4 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. While this new firmware makes JailbreakMe 3.0 useless, devices susceptible to the Limera1n bootrom exploit can still jailbreak iOS 4.3.4 on their devices, albeit tethered. We've now posted a video guide on jailbreaking iOS 4.3.4 tethered iPhone, iPad and iPod touch using redsn0w 0.9.8b3 on both Windows and Mac.

Apple released iOS 4.3.4, even though when it had no intention of doing it, because they had to patch a vulnerability in mobile Safari that can give hackers root access to the device. While Comex, the developer of JailbreakMe 3.0 does not have any devious intentions, its likely that hackers may use the very same exploit to intrude our devices.

Knowing the issue, Comex himself released PDF patcher 2 in Cydia so that people could implement a safe guard against this security flaw in iOS. PDF Patcher 2 patches the vulnerability present in mobile Safari on which JailbreakMe 3.0 capitalizes to install Cydia on your device, effortlessly.

If you want to retain your iPad 2 jailbreak, then you should not update to stock iOS 4.3.4 firmware. As for Comex, its back to square one as he will now have to develop an entirely new exploit in iOS 4.3.4 and it looks like iOS 5 will be released by the time we get an iPad 2 iOS 4.3.4 jailbreak. Keep in mind the fact that iOS 4.3.4 is probably the last firmware upgrade before iOS 5 is publicly launched this fall, which isn't that far off. Time and again we have told you to save iPad 2 iOS 4.3.3 SHSH blobs because if you have mistakenly upgraded to iOS 4.3.4, with saved SHSH blobs you can downgrade iPad 2 to iOS 4.3.3 and jailbreak it using JailbreakMe 3.0. There's a catch here though, if you have a 3G iPad 2, saved SHSH blobs won't be enough for downgrade now as the baseband is also under SHSH protection now. WiFi iPad 2 owners can use their saved SHSH blobs to downgrade iOS 4.3.4 to iOS 4.3.3 so that it can be jailbroken.

Embedded below is the detailed step by step video guide on how to jailbreak iOS 4.3.4 tethered using redsn0w 0.9.8b3 on Windows and Mac, which was originally uploaded on our YouTube channel. Don't forget to check it out for the latest jailbreak tutorials and all iOS related tips and tricks.

Then you’re stuck with iOS 4.3.4 IF you have upgraded to it. If you’re still running iOS 4.3.3, the only option you have is to not upgrade the firmware.

The jailbreak appears to have worked, however, my phone is not recognizing the new sim card. It also still shows AT&T as the carrier in the about settings. Did I miss something?
