After weeks of agonizing wait, Apple has finally approved the official Google+ app for iPhone. This native Google+ app brings the internet search giant's new social network to your iPhone. So what are you waiting for? Download away!

iOS users felt left out when Google released official Google+ Android application when the new social network went live earlier last month. Though Apple's app approval process takes up considerable time and that is probably the only reason why the official Google+ for iPhone took so long to be finally available for download. Nevertheless, we had shown you an image of Google+ for iOS in beta long before anything about this app was known.

The official Google+ iOS app functions almost identical to its Android counterpart. It brings most of the features to your iPhone. Obviously, this being a mobile application, can't give you the whole unadulterated Google+ experience on your iOS device.

Google+ for mobile makes sharing the right things with the right people a lot simpler. Huddle lets you send super-fast messages to the people you care about most. And no matter where you are, the stream lets you stay in the loop about what your friends are sharing and where they’re checking in.

Features of the official Google+ for iPhone include:

  • Circles let you share the right things with just the right people.
  • Stream is where you can get updates from your circles or see what people are saying about things nearby.
  • Huddle is super-fast group messaging for everyone in your circles.

This free application is available for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. Though no support for the iPad is bound to tick off some people who had been anticipating a dedicated Google+ iPad app. Who knows, maybe that will release in the near future. As of now, the only pre-requisite for running Google+ on your iOS device is iOS 3.1 or later.

Google is very ambitious about its new social network, which is currently in field trial and requires someone who is already a member to send you an invitation before you can try it out for yourself. Registration is not open to public as yet, but will be in the coming months. If you're willing to join Google+, simply leave a comment down below and mention your email on our Facebook page wall and we'll send you a Google+ invite, for free.

Is there a reason that you have to download it via iTunes? Shouldn’t we just be able to download it directly to our phone? (You can’t at the moment: if you search for google+ on the iphone app, you get nada.)

The “+” sign isn’t recognized. That’s why you get nada.

yeah, but even if you search for just “google”, you get all of their apps except google+. It’s weird.

You won’t be able to download using App Store. It doesn’t recognize the + sign. Download it using this link and sync your iPhone.
