We must admit that the future of our favourite iOS devices, the iPhone, iPad and the iPod touch is shrouded in a mystery as of now. No one knows when the next iPhone is coming out, what would the next iPods be like and how soon will Apple release a successor to the iPad 2. For now, we can only depend on rumours and rumour is that Apple is going starting production of the iPhone 4S and the iPad 3 in September prior to their release slated for October.
This rumour about iPhone 4S and iPad 3 release in October was originally floated on the internet by Macotakara. The site claims that it has received information from its sources indicating that Apple has okayed production to be started on the iPhone 4S as well as the next iteration of the iPad in September. As far as availability of these new devices is concerned, the site hints at a late October iPad 3 release with iPhone 4S.
Don't be fooled though, the iPhone 4S, actually that's what the websites are calling it, is not your full fledged next generation iPhone. Apple will release a proper successor to the iPhone 4 which will presumably be called the iPhone 5. It will be thin and tapered, it will be considerably lighter than its predecessors, it will be faster and will have more storage capacity on board. The iPhone 5 release in USA is slated for September.
On the other hand, just yesterday we reported about Apple's alleged plans to release not one, but two iPhones this Fall, the other being the relatively low cost, contract free iCloud iPhone. This cheap iPhone can exactly be what is referred to as the iPhone 4S. According to this particular report however, its going to be a CDMA iPhone and will be made from components previously used to manufacture the iPhone 4. The iCloud iPhone will be cheaper because it will be based on Apple's latest cloud offering and won't come with substantial on board storage memory, cutting the total manufacturing cost for Apple which means a cheap iPhone for the masses.
As far as the iPad 3 is concerned, we can't be really so sure about that as of now. It has merely been a full five months since Apple released the iPad 2 back in March. Apple generally waits for a year before releasing a new iteration of its products. However, Apple did leave out some pretty essential things in the iPad 2 which made us wonder at the time of its release, that it was highly likely for Apple to launch two iPads in 2011. For example, before the iPad 2 was released, the rumour mill was frantically suggesting a Retina Display for the next generation iPad. That didn't happen. Also, the fact that Apple fit nearly mediocre front and back cameras in to its latest tablet, makes us wonder why the Cupertinos would do that when its competition are at least putting 3 - 5 megapixel cameras on their 2011 tablet offerings.
If this report is anything to go by, we just might get two new iPhones and one new iPad as early as October 2011, regardless of the fact that somewhere in between of September and October, Apple is also going to release its 2011 iPod models. It looks like the near future is full of Apple goodies and we here at iPhoneism think its our duty to keep you filled in on all the news, rumours and happenings at Cupertino. Stay tuned as there's a lot more to come.
