Moments ago Apple has seeded iOS 5 beta 6 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to developers enrolled in the iPhone Developer Program. If you are a registered developer, you can now download iOS 5 beta 6 for your device from the developers portal.
All iOS 5 beta firmware updates since iOS 5 beta 4 have been seeded to developers over-the-air. So if you did install iOS 5 beta 5 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch all you need to do is to simply launch the Settings.app, tap on General followed by Software Update. Ensure that you are connected to the WiFi. iOS 5 beta 6 download will be around 123 MB in size and on a good connection would take less than 10 minutes to download. Keep in mind that there’s a huge amount of load on Apple’s servers so you could be looking at iOS 5 beta 6 download times of up of 30 minutes, regardless of a good internet connection.
Registered Developers: If you have a Developer Account which alone costs $99 per year, all you need to do is simply log in to the developers portal and download the iOS 5 beta 6 ipsw from there. Obviously, the easy way is to get iOS 5 beta 6 OTA, but if you want the iOS 5 beta 6 ipsw to dig inside its code, this is what you have to do.
Non Developers: The fact is that more non developers are actually anxious about the latest iOS 5 beta firmware than developers and they are generally more impatient to get their hands on the latest beta. Unfortunately, due to the fact that you do not have a Developers Account and can not log in to the developers portal, you’ll have to wait for a couple of hours till we manually upload all of the iOS 5 beta 6 ipsw for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We’ll be adding the links here, so keep refreshing this page every half hour or so.
The most awesome workaround: Since you can not log in the Developers Account and also can not wait a couple of hours until iOS 5 beta 6 ipsws are uploaded to file sharing website, what you can do is that you can download iOS 5 beta 5 as well as iTunes 10.5 beta 5 for Windows and Mac. Then follow this guide to install iOS 5 beta 5 on your iDevice and simply go to the Settings.app to get iOS 5 beta 6 OTA.
If you did an iOS 5 beta 5 jailbreak: If you went ahead to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 5 using sn0wbreeze or redsn0w on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and are now wondering why you can’t download iOS 5 beta 6 over-the-air, keep in mind that jailbroken iOS 5 beta devices will not be able to receive OTA updates. You’ll need to do a fresh restore of stock iOS 5 beta 5 firmware on your device before you can receive iOS 5 beta 6 OTA.
The UDID dilema: Apple requires that the UDID of your device be registered with a Developer Account before it can run iOS beta firmware. Many people try buying UDID registrations on the internet, but it has been reported that Apple is closing accounts of developers who have been selling UDID registrations and is also flagging the UDIDs of devices that bought the registration. Now you don’t want that, do you? You can try out your luck with us as we have been offering free UDID activations for iOS 5 beta testing and see if you win one. If you can not even wait for that, you should go here to install iOS 5 beta 5 without UDID registration and then do the most awesome workaround mentioned above to get iOS 5 beta 6 on your iOS device.
Stay tuned as iOS 5 beta 6 ipsw download links will be added here soon. Meanwhile, don’t forget to keep checking back here at iPhoneism, the only site in history with the most extensive coverage on iOS 5.
