It has been over two days since Apple seeded iOS 5 beta 6 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We were waiting for an update of sn0wbreeze that would come bearing support for iOS 5 beta 6, as the previous update of sn0wbreeze was released a couple of days before iOS 5 beta 6 came out. Now, iH8sn0w has released sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 6 with support for iOS 5 beta 6 untethered jailbreak on iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) and tethered jailbreak on all other supported iOS devices.
As far as iOS 5 beta 6 jailbreak is concerned, we tried that out with the previous release of redsn0w by pointing it to the iOS 5 beta 5 ipsw. It jailbreaks the device, however many of our readers have reported that redsn0w is unable to boot the device tethered after the jailbreak has been done. Expect a new redsn0w update for iOS 5 beta 6 jailbreak to be released in the next 48 hours.
Sn0wbreeze will jailbreak iOS 5 beta 6 on the following devices:
- iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)
- iPhone 3GS (new bootrom)
- iPhone 4 (GSM)
- iPhone 4 (CDMA)
- iPod Touch 3G
- iPod Touch 4
- iPad 1G
Apart from the iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), sn0wbreeze 2.8b6 will jailbreak the aforementioned devices tethered. A tethered jailbreak means that if your device runs out of battery or you need to reboot it at any instance, you'll have to connect it to the computer and run iBooty, which is automatically extracted and saved to your desktop once you have created the custom ipsw using sn0wbreeze. Only the iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) can get iOS 5 beta 6 untethered jailbreak using sn0wbreeze 2.8 beta 6. Also keep in mind that this won't work on the iPad 2, which can only be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.3 using JailbreakMe 3.0.
Sn0wbreeze 2.8b6 will remove UDID check and the beta timer, meaning that even if you're not a developer you can still install iOS 5 beta 6 and jailbreak it without requiring a UDID registration or Developers Account. Sn0wbreeze will also preserve your unlockable baseband. If you prefer jailbreaking your device using redsn0w and don't have a Developers Account, you can follow this tutorial to install iOS 5 beta 6 with UDID registration.
