The technology industry has been in shock since the past couple of hours. As if the next generation iPhone hype wasn't enough, creator of Apple Mr. Steve Jobs resigned from the company from totally out of the blue. Many asked who would replace a man with such a big legacy? Well its someone who Steve Jobs has deeply trusted with the affairs of Apple.
Earlier this year in February, Steve Jobs took a sudden medical leave of absence from the company sparking concerns about his health. Even though he didn't return full time to Apple ever since, he was said to be managing the company from home and would occasionally drop by the Apple Campus at One Infinite Loop. He also made an appearance at the iPad 2 release event in March. Now, he has finally given up the reins to someone who was always left incharge when Steve Jobs needed to be out.
Tim Cook, former COO of Apple and now the new Apple CEO was handed over all of the affairs of Apple in 2004 when Steve Jobs was fighting between life and death due to pancreatic cancer. In 2009 when Steve Jobs had to get a liver transplant, Tim Cook was there to take care of Apple. Now when Steve Jobs once again went on a medical leave earlier this year, the charge was handed over to Tim Cook who has proven himself worthy and credible enough to run a company as big as Apple.
Tim Cook came to Apple in 1998 after leaving his previous employer, Compaq and initially joined as the Vice President of Corporate Materials. He has served the company for over 12 years now and the Board of Directors at Apple have full faith in him. Once the news reached the market that Steve Jobs had resigned, Apple's stock went down by 7% however when the successor to Jobs was announced, the initial slump cooled off and now stock is down by 5% and is likely to recover over the next couple of days.
Tim Cook has called a workaholic at Apple HQ. He can be seeing sending emails in the wee hours of the night and he also has the habit of holding meetings on Sunday nights just to focus on what they have to do in the coming week. He's a very calm, cool and collected sort of a person and while many of us would not be awed by his stage presence comparatively to Steve Jobs, he is the perfect man for the job, so much so that Steve Jobs explicitly mentioned him in his resignation letter.
So, do you look forward to seeing Tim Cook on stage at the iPhone 5 release?
