It seems like Apple is working on killing jailbreaking with kindness. The company has hired Comex who is widely known as the author of JailbreakMe as an inter. Comex starts his internship at Apple two weeks from now. So what does this mean for the future of JailbreakMe ?
Earlier today, Comex broke the news via Twitter. He tweeted that he had been getting increasingly bored day by day and wanted an internship, preferably at Apple. He later tweeted that he will be starting his internship at Apple the week after next. One would think that people who rely on devs like Comex to create a jailbreak for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch wouldn't be happy with him crossing over to the other side however as per the reponses received on Twitter, majority of Comex's followers are actually happy for him.
Last month we saw an exclusive insight in to the life of Comex who was exclusively interviewed by Forbes Magazine. Nicholas Allegra is a 19 year old currently on leave from college because he wanted an internship. He lives in a small town near New York and is known as Comex to the online community. His greatest jailbreak triumph includes JailbreakMe 3.0 which allows an iPad 2 to be jailbroken untethered on iOS 4.3.3 by simply visiting jailbreakme.com. Comex's is the only dev that has come up with an iPad 2 jailbreak, albeit limited to iOS 4.3.3 only. JailbreakMe 3.0 can also jailbreak iPhones and iPod touches using the same method on iOS 4.3 up to iOS 4.3.3.
Due to the fact that Apple is really secretive about its work, they haven't revealed on what Comex will be working on during his internship at Apple. We've a hunch that because iOS 5 release is coming closer, Apple will work alongside Comex to locate and patch any jailbreak exploits, tethered or tethered in the most extensive iOS update ever. Hence making iOS 5 harder to jailbreak. Though one must not forget that Comex isn't the only one making jailbreaks, however now after Comex starting his internship at Apple it can be safely presumed that JailbreakMe isn't going to get updated soon with support for jailbreaking newer firmwares with the tap of a button.
Earlier this year, Apple also hired Peter Hajas, the developer of an amazing jailbreak tweak called MobileNotifier. This jailbreak tweak, to an extent, fixed the essentially flawed notification system on iOS 4 and older firmware. He is also credited for being behind the new notification system in iOS 5. Apple seems to have found the perfect strategy, if you can't beat them, hire them. Who in their right mind would reject an internship at Apple?
Would you?
