Yesterday, Apple seeded iOS 5 beta 7 for iPhone, iPad and iPod t0uch. The latest beta of iOS 5 brings a variety of performance and stability improvements. With every new firmware beta, it is obvious that the devs will release a new beta of jailbreak software as well. You can now download sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 for iOS 5 beta 7 untethered jailbreak on iPhone 3GS.

On devices other than the iPhone 3GS, you can't have an iOS 5 beta 7 untethered jailbreak. List of supported devices that are jailbreakable using sn0wbreeze is given below:

  • iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)
  • iPhone 3GS (new bootrom)
  • iPhone 4
  • iPad 1
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G

The iOS 5 beta 7 untethered jailbreak is only possible if you have an iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), all other supported devices will be jailbroken tethered on iOS 5 beta 7. It won't work on iPad 2.

Tethered jailbreak means that if you have to reboot your device or it runs out of battery, you'll have to connect your device to the computer in order to do a tethered boot. Untethered boot is devoid of all such processes, however an iOS 5 beta untethered jailbreak for all devices isn't coming out any time soon.

Apart from jailbreaking your device, sn0wbreeze will also remove the UDID check, allowing you to install iOS 5 beta 7 without a developer account. By default, beta firmware is only available to developers enrolled in the iPhone Developer Program which costs $99 per year. Apple requires that you register the UDID of your device, here's how to locate it, with a developer account else you won't be able to install beta firmware on it. We here at iPhoneism have been offering free UDID registrations for iOS 5 beta testing, you can try out your luck with us by going through to the aforementioned link. If you're impatient, you can simply use sn0wbreeze for an iOS 5 beta 7 untethered jailbreak or tethered even depending upon your device and remove the UDID check. Sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 will also remove the beta expiry timer, meaning that iOS 5 beta 7 which is due to expire on October 20 will not expire if you create a custom ipsw using sn0wbreeze and install it on your device.

iOS 5 Beta 7 Untethered Jailbreak Using Sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 Guide:

The procedure to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 7 using sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 on Windows is exactly similar to the previous release. Simply follow the tutorial posted here. The only step that differs is that you have to select the iOS 5 beta 7 ipsw. All other steps for removing UDID check and iOS 5 beta 7 expiry timer are exactly the same.

If You're A Mac User:

Since sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 is only for Windows, Mac users can jailbreak iOS 5 beta 7 tethered using redsn0w 0.9.8b7. Do keep in mind that redsn0w can not do an iOS 5 beta 7 untethered jailbreak on your iPhone 3GS (old bootrom). Detailed guide on jailbreaking using redsn0w is given here.
