[Fix] Edit, Change or Enable EDGE / APN Settings in iOS 5 beta 7 for iPhone

For some reason, the ability to edit, change or enable custom APN settings for GPRS/EDGE has been disabled in the latest iOS 5 beta 7 for iPhone and therefore, users are no longer allowed to manually insert settings into the APN field that was previously available at Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network.

This is bad, since users who use their iPhone on unofficial carriers won't be able to use EDGE but we have a clever solution.

The simple way to enable a install a custom APN profile on your iPhone is to visit this page http://help.benm.at through Safari on your iPhone and follow the steps below.

  1. Open up http://help.benm.at in Safari app on iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on 'Tethering' under Features.
  3. Scroll down and tap on 'Create Your Own', Generator.
  4. Now enter the APN settings in the field provided by your carrier.
  5. Once the details have been added, tap on 'Download'.
  6. Once the screen switches, tap on 'Install' and confirm the modal alert.

That's it. Once the new profile has been installed, restart your iPhone. Make sure Cellular Data is turned ON in Settings > General > Network
