Yesterday, the iPhone Dev Team released redsn0w 0.9.9b1 for Windows and Mac. This is the biggest redsn0w update we've seen in quite some time now as it comes with a whole new set of amazing features. This guide will teach you how to jailbreak without IPSW any iOS firmware running on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using redsn0w 0.9.9b1 on your Windows or Mac computer.

The best thing about redsn0w 0.9.9b1 is that it lets you jailbreak without IPSW. You don't have to manually download the IPSW file of the firmware you want to jailbreak. Redsn0w automatically detects what firmware the device is running when you plug it in and downloads the relevant files required for the jailbreak from Apple's servers. These files are then cached so that they don't need to be downloaded once again. Redsn0w will then automatically detect what sort of jailbreak the iOS firmware on your device is compatible with, be it tethered or untethered, and after detection redsn0w will automatically apply that jailbreak. This new redsn0w update has really simplified the otherwise lengthy process of jailbreaking.

How To Jailbreak Without IPSW Any iOS Firmware Using Redsn0w 0.9.9b1:

For this guide, we used a fourth generation iPod touch running iOS 4.3.3, which is the only publicly available firmware that can be jailbroken untethered. Follow the steps given below to jailbreak without IPSW any iOS firmware as the steps are exactly the same for all publicly available firmwares, new or old.

Step 1: Download redsn0w 0.9.9b1 for Windows and Mac

Step 2: Extract the folder and launch redsn0w

Step 3: Click on Jailbreak. Now plug in your device and power it off.

Step 4: Now when you click on Next, redsn0w 0.9.9b1 will display instructions to put your device in DFU mode. If you very well know how to put your device in DFU mode you may proceed to do the steps on your own without clicking on Next. If you do not know how to put your device in to DFU mode, click on next and follow the instructions as they're displayed to you.

  • Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds
  • Keep holding Power button while you press and hold Home button for 10 seconds
  • Release Power button but keep holding Home button until redsn0w proceeds to the next step

Step 5: Once you successfully put your device in DFU mode, redsn0w will automatically detect your device, its firmware and the type of jailbreak that can be applied to it. It will then begin downloading files needed for the jailbreak from Apple's servers.

Step 6: After files are downloaded, redsn0w 0.9.9b1 will give you some options to choose from. Obviously, you have to select Install Cydia. You may also choose to install multitasking gestures, only available with selected firmwares, and custom boot logos.

Step 7: After selecting whatever options you want, click on Next. Redsn0w will now begin uploading jailbreak data on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and when its finished, the remaining jailbreak procedure will be carried out on the device itself, just like old times.

Note: Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 is not compatible with the iPad 2, as its not susceptible to the Limera1n bootrom exploit. You will only be able to jailbreak without IPSW those firmwares which are publicly available. If you want to jailbreak iOS 5 beta firmware, you will have to manually provide that firmware to redsn0w as beta firmware is not publicly available and files required for its tethered jailbreak can not be downloaded from Apple's servers by everyone. Guides for iOS 5 beta tethered jailbreak and tethered boot for all iOS firmwares will be posted soon.

        @Lota Man
        Do you think I should upgrade to 5.0, downgrade to 4.3.3 or wait it out for a unthered jailbreak for my current firmware? Thanks for the help, and the fast response. Your site is #1 in my book.

          Downgrade if you can to iOS 4.3.3 if you really want an untethered jailbreak. Else wait it out. Thanks! Sent from my BlackBerry® Smartphone provided by Ufone
