Just moments ago at the Let's Talk iPhone event, Apple has unveiled iOS 5 public release date. iOS 5 will be released to the public on October 12.
Ever since iOS 5 was revealed at WWDC 2011, Apple has seeded eight betas to its developers. From the first bug laden iOS 5 beta to the much improved latest beta we tested, Apple's most extensive iOS update does not cease to amaze us. Now you can finally download iOS 5 starting October 12 and try it out for yourself regardless of worrying about being a registered Apple developer.
Apple only releases beta firmware to developers registered in the iPhone Developer Program. The cost of this registration is $99 per year, a price many non developers will not be willing to pay just because they want some hands-on time with iOS 5. That won't be required any more as Apple will finally release iOS 5 to the public on October 12.
iOS 5 is going to be compatible with the following devices:
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- iPad 1
- iPad 2
- iPod touch 3G
- iPod touch 4G
iOS 5 is going to be a free download for the public. For more updates, including the newly released iPhones, follow our Let's Talk iPhone event liveblog. Developing story...
