Twitter has updated their app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch earlier today. This new update makes the Twitter app fully compatible with iOS 5 and brings a host of new features.

Real-time search reveals breaking news, while trending topics and maps show what’s happening now around the world. View trends, browse your interests and see suggested users in several categories, including fashion, entertainment and travel, or search to find out what people are saying about topics you care about, such as politics or big sporting events.

Earlier today, Twitter released version 3.5.0 of their app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This app brings a host of new features. One particular feature that blends in well with the deep Twitter integration of iOS 5 is the enhanced sign up experience that Twitter for iOS version 3.5.0 offers. We already know that Twitter has been deeply integration in iOS 5. By adding the credentials of your Twitter account in the Settings.app, you can tweet from anywhere in iOS 5, as well as upload pictures and reply to tweets. The enhanced sign up experience makes sure that you do not have to enter your credentials once again when you install the app. The app would automatically pull in the credentials that you entered in the Settings.app and will load up all of your tweets and direct messages.

Full Changelog of Twitter for iOS Version 3.5.0:

  • Updated Direct Messages design on iPad
  • Tap a location on iPad to show Tweets nearby
  • Bug fixes and minor enhancements

In this new Twitter app update, the direct message UI of Twitter for iPad has been completely revamped. We had previously heard from our readers that Twitter app was crashing on iOS 5. In this update, all such issues have been fixed and the Twitter app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch should work flawlessly now with your iOS devices.

Twitter for iOS can be installed on any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch provided that it is running iOS 4.0 or later. Since iOS 5 public release is tomorrow and Apple released iTunes 10.5 final earlier today, if you're still on outdated firmware, now is the time to upgrade your iOS device.
