There is a lot of speculation about a Siri iPhone 4 port these days and it looks like an iPhone 4S iOS 5 firmware jailbreak will be required before a port can be made available for iPhone 4 as well as other iOS devices.
Before iOS 5 was even released, we told you that it could be possible to jailbreak iOS 5 firmware merely hours after it was made available to public. Sure enough within two hours of release, we could jailbreak iOS 5 firmware final using redsn0w. However, that jailbreak has its limitations such as the fact that only devices susceptible to the Limera1n bootrom exploit can be jailbroken. This means that the iPad 2 as well as iPhone 4S can not be jailbroken as of now because the A5 dual-core processor is not susceptible to the Limera1n bootrom exploit and despite the fact that Chronic Dev Team has five new iOS 5 firmware userland exploits, none has been released than makes jailbreaking iPad 2 or iPhone 4S possible.
Earlier this week MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team revealed that porting Siri to iPhone 4 as well as other supported iOS 5 devices will require piracy. The developers have been against piracy since day one meaning that until and unless an iPhone 4S jailbreak is released, we can lose all hope of a Siri iPhone 4 port.
So will a Siri port ever be legal? Well, turns out it can. Sn0wbreeze developer iH8sn0w just tweeted that it could be possible to port Siri to non-iPhone 4S devices provided the iPhone 4S is jailbroken. That way a tool can be developed that can transfer Siri files from the iPhone 4S to another iOS device by means of a USB. This means that a new tool will be developed that would run on a computer which would have both the iPhone 4S and the device to which Siri needs to be ported connected via USB. Then the tool will port all required files to which Siri needs to be ported to.
However there's a big question that needs to be answered. Will Siri be fully compatible with devices other than the iPhone 4S? Earlier today we reported about a developer that ported Siri to iPhone 4 however it made the device sluggish to say the least. While that confirmed the fact that Siri can be ported, we still need to find out whether a Siri port on other iOS devices will compromise their performance or not.
We've already discussed iPhone 4S jailbreak possibility in detail and as of now it looks like we would have to wait for a couple of months before it is possible to jailbreak iPhone 4S untethered or tethered. Let's just hope someone dumps A5 bootrom soon.
