Those who said iPhone 4S would not perform well in the market are now put to shame. Apple announced earlier today that it has sold over four million iPhone 4S units on the first weekend alone.

The iPhone 4S has broken all previous sales records. Over 1 million iPhone 4S units were pre-ordered in seven countries on the first day alone, beating the previous 600,000 record set by iPhone 4. One must keep in mind that the iPhone 4 was a complete overhaul whereas the iPhone 4S is a minor update with the only changes made are those found under the hood.

Apple's SVP of Worldwide Product Marketing Philip Schiller said that the iPhone 4S is off to a phenomenal start as it has sold double the number of units in first three days when compared to iPhone 4. As Apple consistently remarked at their iPhone 4S release event, once again Philip said that this is the best iPhone ever as it comes coupled with not only the best hardware available for a smartphone but as well as software which includes iOS 5 and iCloud.

Apple announced iPhone 4S on October 4 at a small media event on its campus. Most people were disappointed as they had been waiting for a fully overhauled iPhone 5 because rumors about it had been floating for months. Regardless of that, Apple revealed iPhone 4S which comes with a dual-core A5 processor, 8 megapixel camera, 64GB memory option, Siri voice assistant, iCloud and iOS 5.

iOS 5 was publicly released on October 12 after being in developer beta for over four months. iOS 5 is the most extensive update ever as it comes with over 200 new features. Earlier today Apple also announced that iOS 5 had been downloaded over 25 million times for non-iPhone 4S devices whereas over 20 million iCloud accounts had been created. iCloud was shipped concurrent to iOS 5 on October 12.

By the looks of it, iPhone 4S has really turned out to be Apple's most successful iPhone launch. One can only wonder what might have happened if Apple had announced the all new iPhone 5. Keep in mind that Apple sold four million iPhone 4S units on first weekend in just seven countries. Shipments to 22 countries will start from October 28 and an additional 70 countries by end of 2011 so you can imagine what the number would be after that happens.
