It has not been very long since iPhone 4S made its debut and already we have incredible accessories for iPhone 4S rolling in. A new accessory for iPhone 4S, the Iris 9000 is going to be released soon. Its a 'voice control module' for your iPhone 4S.
ThinkGeek has introduced a voice control module for Siri on iPhone 4S and its called the Iris 9000. It looks and functions a lot like HAL 9000 from Space Odyssey. The red eye camera of the HAL 9000 is present on the Iris 9000 however on the Iris it functions as a flickering light that gives a nice touch to the responses Siri makes to your commands.
The module consists of a microphone which can pick up your voice from a distance of not more than 50 feet. It also consists of a speaker which amplifies Siri's response. Your iPhone 4S just needs to be slided in the Iris 9000 cradle. The accessory comes with a remote containing the microphone. All the user needs to do is hit the button on the remote to get Siri's attention.
The user speaks his command into the microphone after pressing the button. Through the speaker of Iris 9000, Siri responds to your command with a volume you can hear easily from a distant corner of the room. If this is not cool enough, the creepy flickering red light on Iris 9000 speaker will certainly be cool to watch with the lights turned off. If you're a fan of Space Odyssey, then again who isn't?, turn off the lights in your room and talk with Siri through Iris 9000. The ability to talk without having to have the iPhone 4S in your hands coupled with a flickering red light glowing in the dark will definitely fulfill your sci-fi fantasies.
However, don't expect to get your hands on an Iris 9000 module anytime soon. The company has not revealed any definite date of release but you can still sign up for email alerts. A 2012 release is mentioned on the website. The best part about Iris 9000 is that its not horrendously expensive. You'll be able to buy Iris 9000 from ThinkGeek in early 2012 for a price of $59.99.
Who's not getting one?
