Previously we reported that developers were working on porting Siri to iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. They had managed to get the GUI up and running however Siri wasn't connecting to Apple's servers. Now, the developers have been able to make Siri fully functional on the above mentioned devices.

Only yesterday we posted a full guide on how to install Siri on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4G. At the moment this port is GUI only and is devoid of any actual functionality because Siri can't connect to Apple's servers.

Steve Troughton Smith, the developer who was first to port Siri to iPhone 4, has now been able to make Siri fully functional on iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. Siri on both these devices is now able to communicate with Apple's servers and provide full functionality. The developer has revealed the finer details in an interview with 9to5Mac.

As we previously reported, iPhone 4S jailbreak is required for porting Siri. We already know that the iPhone Dev Team has been able to jailbreak iPhone 4S in preliminary stages so all the developer needed was access to a jailbroken iPhone 4S to get the required files for a fully functional Siri port on iPhone 4S and iPod touch 4G. Steve Smith said in the interview that a jailbroken iPhone 4S is required for porting Siri to these devices and from this jailbroken iPhone 4S, a validation token also needs to be captured before the port can be made fully functional.

He said that the Siri port was 100% functional on iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. Steve stressed that he will never be a part of distributing this port illegally through Cydia or any other medium. The files required for Siri port can not be legally distributed by anyone however that does not mean people won't try to sell it. Even if Steve doesn't release this fully functional Siri port, someone will who won't give a second thought to all the legal implications. The iPhone 4 works flawlessly with Siri but the iPod touch 4G has a low quality microphone, unlike the iPhone 4. Siri level meter on iPod touch 4G will hardly move when you're talking to it, so that means you'll have to speak very clearly and loudly for Siri on iPod touch 4G to understand you.

The developer has said that the whole process took less than 10 minutes. There are some 20 steps to this procedure and access to a jailbroken iPhone 4S is mandatory to get Siri working on these devices. While he hasn't said anything about a release, its a possibility that other developers who are not as considerate about legal issues, will release a fully functional Siri port for iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. Even in that case, expect a release after a jailbreak for iPhone 4S is made public.
