Apple continues to impress. Besides the record breaking sales of iPhone 4S, Apple has something else to brag about. Net Applications have released their monthly summary of web traffic which shows the percentage of internet access from various mobile operating systems. The results are brilliant for Apple as it shows that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch have been responsible for over 60% of mobile web traffic.
According to the web traffic summary of Net Applications, with the end of October, Apple's iOS platform is responsible for 61.64% of internet usage beating other operating softwares by a mile. At the end of September 2011, it was responsible for 54.65% of web traffic, still highest amongst its competitors.
Over the last month, web traffic from iOS devices has increased by an outstanding 6.99%. This is the highest increase in web traffic from iOS devices Since December 2009, that is almost 2 years. The launch of iPhone 4S has greatly contributed to this factor as over 6 million units have been sold around in world since its release on October 17.
Not to mention the fact that Apple has been leading other softwares for over a year now. web traffic from iOS devices has been consistently reported as the highest since May 2010. Although internet access from iOS devices has been fluctuating, iOS has still maintained its lead over the other softwares since May 2010. As a matter of fact, it can also be seen from the graph that web traffic lead of iOS over the other softwares has been increasing since May 2010 but not consistently. Other than iOS, Android has also done quite well. Android has been on the rise since December 2009 and has just beat Java ME this passed October. Currently, Android devices are responsible for 18.9% of the total web traffic and are second to iOS devices. Although Android has done quite well, but is no match for Apple's iOS.
The iPhone 4S launch has been Apple's most successful iPhone launch to date with over four million devices being sold within the first three days of release in just seven countries. Earlier last month, shipments to another 22 countries were started and now by an estimate, over 6 million iPhone 4S devices have been sold across the world. Apple will start shipping iPhone 4S to over 70 countries by end of 2011 and one can only guess the lead Apple will gain over its competitors in mobile web traffic once another couple of million iOS devices are bought around the globe.
