Earlier today, Apple seeded iOS 5.0.1 firmware for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to developers. You need to be a registered developer in order to install beta firmware however even if you're not one, this tutorial will teach you how to install iOS 5.0.1 firmware without developers account.
The problem with beta firmware is that you can not install it on a device that doesn't have its UDID registered with a developer account. How To Install iOS 5.0.1 Firmware Without Developer Account:
Step 1: Following files will be needed:
Download iOS 5.0.1 IPSW for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
Download iTunes 10.5.1 beta 2 for Windows and Mac
Download i-Funbox or iPhone Explorer for Windows and Mac
Step 2: Once iOS 5.0.1 IPSW has been downloaded, connect your device to the computer, launch iTunes and restore iOS 5.0.1 on your device. After installation finishes, don't proceed to set up your device just yet.
Step 3: Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 firmware using redsn0w on Windows and Mac
Step 4: After device has been jailbroken, connect it to the computer and launch the respective i-Funbox or iPhone Explorer software on your Windows or Mac computer
Step 5: Use the software to open this path:
filesystem/library/coreservices/systemversion.plist
When you locate this .plist file, copy and save it on your computer
Step 6: Now open this .plist file from the desktop using Text Editor or NotePad and delete the following key and string:
<key>ReleaseType</key> <string>beta</string>
Step 7: Save the changes and copy this .plist file back to its original location. Once copied, reboot your device. Since your device is jailbroken, you will have to do a tethered boot using redsn0w.
