While iOS 5.0.2 is slated for release later next week, it so happens that Apple is also working on iOS 5.1 firmware for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Reportedly, the next major update of iOS 5 is going to completely revamp Siri on iPhone 4S.
Siri is Apple's revolutionary virtual assistant. It takes commercial artificial intelligence to a whole new level. Being exclusive to the iPhone 4S, those who snag up Apple's latest iPhone can enjoy using Siri. It can take notes for you, reply to your email and messages, set your reminders and calendar entries, give you directions and weather information as well do a host of other functions. All that you need to do, is speak to Siri.
As good as it sounds, Siri still can't do everything for you. You can't ask Siri to take a picture or start recording video, regardless of how cool it would feel to be able to do that. You also can't ask Siri to toggle Bluetooth and WiFi ON or OFF. Instead, here's a whole list of things Siri can do. Regardless of that, a new report claims Apple software engineers are working hard at iOS 5.1 and this major update will revamp Siri so that it is able to do things it is currently unable to do. Sound good?
If you have a good memory, you'll remember that at the iPhone 4S release event, Apple announced that Siri was still in beta. Even if you don't remember that, everybody knows Apple always revamps its products and Siri is going to be no exception. So yes, iOS 5.1 firmware will bring these additional functionalities to Siri, making Apple's virtual assistant an even greater selling point for the brand new iPhone 4S.
Be advised though, the source of this information doesn't exactly have a good track record when it comes to making predictions about what Apple is working on. They don't even get an expected release date of iOS 5.1 firmware for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Though that doesn't necessarily mean that iOS 5.1 won't revamp Siri. There's a huge possibility of that. The actual release of iOS 5.1 is shrouded in a mystery as it could probably take well over a couple of months before Apple makes a major iOS firmware update.
