Downgrade iOS 5.0.1 To iOS 5.0 With TinyUmbrella SHSH Blobs Using New Redsn0w Update

Well known iPhone hacker MuscleNerd announced via Twitter today that the upcoming redsn0w update will make TinyUmbrella saved iOS 5.0+ SHSH blobs useful. What this means is that you'll be able to downgrade iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0 firmware provided you have saved SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella.

MuscleNerd sent out the following Tweets:

  1. Upcoming redsn0w release makes both TinyUmbrella and Cydia blob saves useful for 5.0+ (1st verifies, then stitches)
  2. For time being, please just use most recent TU to save 5.0.1 blobs+APTicket...redsn0w will do the rest, should you need to restore.

Earlier this week, iH8sn0w updated iFaith to version 1.4 and it now comes with the ability to save iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs and APTicket. The problem is that iFaith is only available for Windows, so if someone wants to downgrade iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0 on their Mac, they can't do that because the relevant software isn't available as currently TinyUmbrella can only save iOS 5.0+ SHSH blobs, not restore using those very blobs.

Only recently the iPhone Dev Team updated redsn0w and added new features such as ability to jailbreak without IPSW, create custom firmware by stitching SHSH blobs etc. The upcoming update will make TinyUmbrella saved iOS 5.0+ SHSH blobs useful again as iOS 5.0.1 downgrade to iOS 5.0 will be easy to do using it.

Do keep in mind that you must have the relevant SHSH blobs saved for this to function. As of now, you can save SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella, iSHSHit and iFaith. Use these tools to save SHSH blobs if you already haven't. If you updated your device to iOS 5.0.1, you'll have to downgrade to iOS 5.0 because only today the iOS 5.0 untethered jailbreak video was released and it has been confirmed that this untethered jailbreak is not going to be compatible with iOS 5.0.1. So if you want an untethered jailbreak, you will have to downgrade to iOS 5.0 firmware.

As of now, the iPhone Dev Team has given no expected release date of the upcoming redsn0w version. It's possible that the new redsn0w for both Windows and Mac will be released over the weekend. We'll immediately update you when that happens. Keep checking in with iPhoneism.com!
