A couple of hours ago, Apple seeded iOS 5.1 beta 2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to developers. If you're a registered developer, you can download iOS 5.1 beta 2 from the Developers Portal.
iOS 5.1 beta 2 comes nearly two weeks after the first iOS 5.1 beta release. There are no major changes or new features in iOS 5.1 beta 2, however Apple hopes that this will fix the iOS 5 battery drain issue that has been persistent throughout supported iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.
This battery issue was initially reported by iPhone 4S owners and soon after that, Apple released iOS 5.0.1 firmware. However that did not fix the battery issue at all and some users reported that their devices started facing battery issues after they had updated to iOS 5.0.1. So in order to fix that, Apple is currently seeding iOS 5.1 betas to developers so that when its finally released to the public sometime later this month, iOS 5.1 fixes the battery drain issue once and for all.
As previously mentioned, iOS 5.1 beta 2 does not come with any new major improvements. The focus was kept on performance and stability improvements as well as crucial bug fixes. Apart from that, iOS 5.1 beta 2 now comes with the ability to delete images from Photo Stream. For the official release notes:
Photos taken using iOS 5.1 can be deleted from Photo Stream on your device and will be removed automatically from Photo Stream on your other iOS 5.1 devices. Older photos can be manually deleted from your iOS 5.1 devices.
End users will definitely be glad that the next iOS 5.1 update will allow them to delete photos from Photo Stream. This feature wasn't added in the first public release of iOS 5. That's just about it in this iOS 5.1 beta 2 update. You can download the relevant IPSW for your device using the links below.
