Earlier today, Apple specifically released iPhone 4S 5.0.1 iOS firmware build 9A406 to fix battery issues. Strangely enough after this update, Siri port install is now significantly easier on iPhone 4, and all other non-iPhone 4S devices.
Up till now, there has been no fully working Siri port for devices other than iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Recently a rather unknown group of hackers called CD Team released H1Siri. A Siri hack which routed requests to Apple's servers using a proxy server. This hack is illegal and can be potentially harmful primarily because it can gain easy access to your data such as contacts, emails, messages etc. Moreover, this hack does not function any more.
Regardless of that, an interesting discovery has been made today. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team revealed via Twitter that the iPhone 4S 5.0.1 iOS build 9A406 has decrypted ramdisks. What this means is that its legal Siri ports are now possible because due to these decrypted ramdisks its easier to get the necessary files required for porting Siri to devices other than the iPhone 4S.
Previously the iPhone 4S firmware files did not have decrypted ramdisks. Due to that, it was not easy to grab the required files but it wasn't impossible as well. Many developers were able to get the files they needed but the method applied for doing that was illegal. Therefore a Siri port for non-iPhone 4S devices wasn't released by a number of developers who were working on it.
What does this mean for Siri port release? Well there's a lot of uncertainty about that at this point in time. We do know that there are a lot of developers that are working on it but none has revealed plans of a release so far. Though after testing it has been confirmed that Siri can run without any glitches on iPhone 4 and the iPad 2. It remains to be seen whether or not a fully functional Siri port for all devices other than the iPhone 4S is released or not.
