The news everyone has been waiting for. Pod2g's iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak on 5.0, 5.0.1 iOS is ready. All previous issues have been fixed and the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak has been confirmed to be fully stable on all iPhone 4S devices.

Only yesterday pod2g revealed in an update on his blog that he had been facing a number of issues when trying to make the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak on 5.0, 5.0.1 iOS work. Earlier today he broke the news that the jailbreak is now fully compatible with the iPhone 4S, and with the help of Jay Freeman a.k.a Saurik, happens to be stable as well. From his blog:

Ok, figured it out, the A5 cache is not a problem anymore. I sorted it out by doing the untether in a single thread and by flushing all the dcache then all the icache in a row at a strategical point of the process.

Another news : I discussed with @saurik today about the launchd boot process, and he's found one missing piece of the puzzle I needed to have a perfectly stable jailbreak. He's definitly one of the best iOS gurus out there. Thank you saurik!

The good thing about pod2g's updates is that they're very easy to understand. Even if you do not have specific knowledge of how a jailbreak is actually created using an exploit, its pretty evident from the excerpt quoted above that the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak on 5.0, 5.0.1 iOS is now ready and will probably be released once testing gets done on iPad 2.

As far as other iOS devices are concerned, pod2g has already confirmed that the jailbreak works on all iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1 devices. The reason it has not been released is because testing is still underway on the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and obviously pod2g can't risk releasing it prematurely only having Apple to patch his exploit in the next iOS 5 firmware update.

It is believed that the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak on 5.0. 5.0.1 iOS, as well as for other devices, is based on a userland exploit. A userland exploit is software based and needs only a firmware update to be patched. Pod2g has yet to reveal when he plans to release this untethered jailbreak for all iOS 5 supported devices but given the fact that testing has been going according to schedule, one should expect a release in the next couple of weeks. We'll let you know as soon as the iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak on 5.0, 5.0.1 iOS is released.
