Download redsn0w 0.9.10b3 to fix MobileSubstrate error being faced after iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. The iPhone Dev Team has just updated their redsn0w jailbreak tool to fix MobileSubstrate error.

Fix MobileSubstrate Error

What exactly is MobileSubstrate again? Not many new jailbreakers are aware of this crucial component and usually freak out when MobileSubstrate crashes on their devices. Basically MobileSubstrate is a platform on which some of the most popular jailbreak tweaks and apps are built. So it goes without saying that when MobileSubstrate crashes, these tweaks and apps are rendered useless. There's no point in having an iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak if this element keeps crashing. This issue is being faced by those who used redsn0w 0.9.10b1 or Corona over their existing iOS 5.0.1 tethered jailbreak. Luckily, with the new redsn0w update, you can fix MobileSubstrate error.

Only yesterday, the iPhone Dev Team released redsn0w 0.9.10b2 which allows you to fix launchctl error after 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak. It's pretty normal for a new jailbreak to run into a few bugs right after its release. As the jailbreak goes in the public's hand for testing, many new bugs surface that are sometimes overlooked during testing phases. Instructions to fix MobileSubstrate error have been provided below.

How To Fix MobileSubstrate Error After iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak:

Step 1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 for Windows and Mac

Step 2: Launch redsn0w and connect your device to the computer.

Step 3: Click on Jailbreak. Be sure to uncheck Install Cydia.

Step 4: Follow onscreen instructions to put your device in DFU mode.

Step 5: Wait for redsn0w to run its magic. Your device will automatically reboot. There's nothing more you need to do to fix MobileSubstrate error.

If you're not aware, this jailbreak is currently only for A4 based devices. This includes the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G and the original iPad. This jailbreak is being tested out extensively and should be able to allow an iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 soon.

You will be able to fix MobileSubstrate error permanently if you followed the directions given above to the point. However if you do run in to any issues at some point, just leave a comment down below. We'll help you out instantly.

Before I got the error Once I jailbroke to 5.0.1 I did a restore using XBackup to restore my apps and folder layout. Could this cause a problem?

Neither redsn0w 0.9.10b3 nor Mobile Substrate Update from Saurik can fix the problem of crashing and not working (working only in safe mode or without mobile substrate apps). Believe me I did everything you said above and more than this.
I’m an old iphone modder and currently I’m facing the biggest scam ever in the community. This version of redsn0w needs more fixing. There’re in rush out there in DevTeam and let us all in big trouble, after updating. Did they check all versions and editions first ?

I’m currently owe an iphone 3GS newer bootrom and stil having problems with cydia and with some of its apps.

(Jailbroke with stock ipsw and redsn0w 0.9.10b3 but…)

Seems that it is a particular app from Cydia embedded in another apps installation that causes the problem. But after that there is no way back…keeps crashing all the time… There is more to do…

    Same problem as CPNT.
    Iphone 4 - IOS 5.0.1
Jailbroken first with redsn0w 0.9.10b1. After having installed a few apps with cydia, the Iphone can’t reboot. Frozen on the small dots circle.

The only solution to boot the Iphone is to reinstall redsn0w 0.9.10b1 and stop installing apps with Cydia (the problem seems to come from mobile substrate apps)

    Doesn’t work after installing 0.9.10b3
Doesn’t work after updating mobile substrate

    Is there another solution ?

Do you have a way to restore IOS 5.0.1 ?
I tried to restore with ITunes, TinyUmbrella and a downloaded IPSW but it doesn’t work. Apparently it’s blocked by apple.

I just recently updated to 5.0.1 on my iPhone 4. I was jailbroken on 4.3.3 before updating. Updated on iTunes to 5.0.1 then used redsnow beta 5 to jail break. The jailbreak went through no problem but when my phone rebooted I couldn’t exit safe mode. I finally got frustrated and restored to stock 5.0.1. Now when I try to jailbreak again my phone won’t enter dfu mode. Phone turns back on when redsnow starts the exploit. Any advice?
