Most iPhone 4 owners anxiously await 4.11.08 baseband unlock. Legendary iOS unlocker Sherif Hashim has taken the time out to release some updates regarding this prevailing predicament.
There is only one iPhone 4 baseband that can be unlocked using the ultrasn0w software and that is 1.59.00. All other iPhone 4 basebands can not be unlocked using ultrasn0w. The 4.11.08 baseband unlock has been a tough one, as all other iPhone 4 basebands can be unlocked using the Gevey SIM interposer. However it looks like soon there will be some good news for those who have iPhone 4 stuck on this particular baseband.
Sherif Hashim, the man who is credited for contributing baseband crashes to ultrasn0w, has released the following update regarding 4.11.08 baseband unlock:
[..] for those whom are still concerned YES i am still working on the VERY TIGHT bbfw 2.10-4.11 (i m taking that personal) after my -October 2010 found- vulnerabilities failed to achieve a payload injection vector despite the huge continuos trials and work done by the legendary @MuscleNerd, the great everlasting iOS hacker and guru, keeping in mind that there was a 10 months of halt due to the Egyptian revolution , what i meant to say is that any new achievements -IF EVER POSSIBLE- regarding this issue will be notified either by this respectable iOS hacker or by the humble myself, NO NEED to ask because it won't make it achievable/earlier/easier. Thanks a lot for taking time to read this.
Sure enough, there came an unexpected halt in updates regarding this particular baseband unlock. Sherif Hashim explains that this delay was primarily caused by the Egyptian Revolution, (He resides in Egypt) which had disrupted normal lives in the whole country. Now that this whole episode is behind them, he vows to resume work on 4.11.08 baseband unlock once again and hopes to come up with good news soon.
He also reveals that he is working on software based unlock for other iPhone 4 basebands as well which include 2.10.04, 3.10.01 and 4.10.01. We have already mentioned that these basebands can be unlocked using Gevey SIM interposer. Though many prefer having a software based unlock.
This update regarding 4.11.08 baseband unlock has come after a long, not to mention agonizing wait. Hopefully Sherif Hashim will be able to come up with something. Regardless of the fact that iPhone 4S is out and 2012 iPhone 5 is just around the corner, a large number of iPhone 4 owners are patiently waiting for this unlock to surface. Here's to hoping for a quick release.
