You can now download iTunes 10.5.3 for Mac OS X and Windows based machines. The new iTunes update comes after a series of announcements made by Apple at its education event earlier today at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
Apple took the stage in New York City earlier today and made a series of announcements that will hopefully change the education industry as we know it. The company has released iBooks 2 application which will bring textbooks to the iPad virtually from every major subject. The iBookstore offers textbooks on Algebra, Biology, Chemistry, Geometry, and Physics from McGraw-Hill and Pearson Textbooks from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt are coming soon. Currently these textbooks are only available to US based customers, however those who have US based Apple Store accounts will be able to access the books. You will need to download iTunes 10.5.3 so that the textbooks downloaded for iBooks 2 can be synced with your computer.
This particular iTunes update does not bring any new functionality other than what has been mentioned in the paragraph above. There are no changes to the layout of this software. The changelog is concise and says the following:
iTunes 10.5.3 allows you to sync interactive ibooks textbooks to your iPad. These multi-touch textbooks are available for purchase from the iTunes Store on your Mac or from the iBookstore included in the iBooks 2 application on your iPad.
iBooks textbooks are created with iBooks Author – now available as a free download on the Mac App Store.
