iPhone 4S owners who wish to unlock their iPhones should remain on iOS 5.0 if they have not yet made the mistake of upgrading to iOS 5.0.1. An unlock for iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0 is being developed and it is very likely that higher basebands released with iOS 5.0.1 may not be supported by it.
Absinthe for Mac is a by far the easiest way to jailbreak your iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1. You will just need to plug the device in and click on the jailbreak button. Rest of the procedure will be done automatically. Before you begin don't forget to make a backup of your device in iTunes.
