Waiting for a Geohot jailbreak? George 'Geohot' Hotz is a famous iOS hacker who gave up hacking last year when he was hired was Facebook. As it turns out, Geohot has now bid farewell to Facebook and he is back to coding and hacking full time.
George Hotz is a well known name amongst the jailbreak community. He is credited for developing the first ever hardware based iPhone unlock. This was achieved through the dis-assembly of Apple's first ever iPhone released back in 2007. He also released the first ever public software exploit needed to jailbreak iPhone 3GS.
It goes without saying that Geohot is a very talented hacker. He was also able to achieve a PS3 jailbreak. However that landed him in court as Sony sued him for Geohot PS3 jailbreak. The legal battle for a couple of months before an out of court settlement was reached between both parties. George Hotz had to commit that he would never jailbreak any Sony console again. This isn't the case with iOS devices though. Jailbreaking has not been deemed illegal when it comes to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Even now new comers in the jailbreak scene hear much about Geohot jailbreak and how updates to it are anxiously awaited to this day.
Since exiting Facebook, Geohot has been working with a new startup called Backplace. This startup is funded by Lady Gaga. He has delved back in to hacking as during a recent hackathon, Geohot was part of a team which made an app that lets you see all of your Facebook friends on a map. They didn't win, but its nice to see Hotz back in the game. Maybe he will work on releasing another version of Geohot jailbreak? He really is an amazing iOS hacker and the community couldn't be more happier to welcome him back.
