We have all wondered at some point whether it is possible to install iPhone apps on iPad. Many iOS apps are designed for both of these products but there are some stock iPhone apps that Apple didn't include in iOS firmware for iPad. A new jailbreak tweak changes just that.
There exists a substantial resolution difference between iPad and iPhone. That is obvious because the former has an impressive 9.7-inch screen. iPhone apps are therefore executed in the infamous 2x mode on iPad. Apps which are made particularly for the iPhone can not work natively on the iPad. It is not entirely impossible to install iPhone apps on iPad, but the fact that most of them don't work natively makes us not want to try at all.
The iPhone comes with a number of stock applications and so does the iPad. However there's a big difference. Apple made its impressive Stocks, Weather, Voice Memo, Compass, Clock and Calculator apps exclusive to iPhone. It has always made us wonder why Apple doesn't include these apps when it makes perfect sense for the iPad to at least have native Stocks, Weather and Calculator apps. Courtesy of a new jailbreak tweak, we can install iPhone apps on iPad that Apple willingly left out.
Ryan Petrich has released a new jailbreak tweak today titled Belfry. Since it can install iPhone apps on iPad, expect it to take quite some time before its finished downloading from Cydia. Belfry jailbreak tweak needs no further explanation. It brings the aforementioned apps to the iPad. Stocks, Weather and Calculator work natively whereas the rest will be launched in 2x mode. The best part is that Belfry tweak is available for download from BigBoss repo in Cydia absolutely free.
You will need a jailbroken iPad or iPad 2 to install Belfry. Follow this guide to jailbreak iPad 2 untethered on iOS 5.0.1. The tutorial posted here will guide you on how to jailbreak original iPad untethered on iOS 5.0.1.
