Those who did an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1 will be pleased to know that they will be able to fix iBooks on their iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The Corona 1.0.6 update will be released soon to fix this issue.
As a safety mechanism Apple programs certain apps to crash upon launching when a device is jailbroken. iBooks is one such application. When ever a new jailbreak is released we see that people complain of iBooks crashing consistently after the jailbreak. The previous update of Corona was released to fix iBooks crashing issue on iOS 5.0.1, and the next Corona update will fix DRM related issues.
Majority of iOS device owners have iBooks app on their device because the App Store prompts them to download a free copy when its launched for the very first time. Even more so by the fact that Apple recently released iBooks 2 with support for textbooks. The announcement was made merely two weeks ago and there has been a huge spike in iBooks as well as textbook downloads.
Now jailbroken iBooks users face another dilemma. If they open a book which has content protected under digital rights management, it is possible that information, texts and pictures may vanish randomly from the boook. Pod2g has tweeted earlier today that iOS hacking guru Planetbeing has been able to fix iBooks DRM issues and that he will be releasing it for the general public soon through Corona 1.0.6 update.
It is possible that this Corona update may also be released through newer versions of Absinthe and Redsnow jailbreak tools. Though keep checking Cydia for updates as Corona 1.0.6 will initially go live in the other app store.
