Ahead of today's media event in San Francisco, Apple has created a new Catalogs category in the App Store. The internet is closely watching Apple's moves prior to the announcement of next generation iPad. Needless to say, the hype surrounding this product release is too damn high.
On February 28, 2024 Apple started sending out media invites for the next generation iPad's announcement. This event is taking place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the exact same venue that has been used for unveiling events of both previous iPads. Rumors have us believe that iPad 3 shipments will begin from March 16 and there is enough circumstantial evidence to support this rumor.
The App Store is a wonderful thing. For end users, it is the one stop shop that plays host to every imaginable app on the planet. For app developers, it is a way of earning their livelihood. Apple just celebrated the 25th billion app download from the App Store and this number will continue to increase in the coming days.
Adding categories to the App Store is not something that Apple usually does. It is also not something that one can expect Apple to casually do. However the folks over at Macrumors have caught hold of a new category. The Catalogs App Store category is now live and populated with some pre-existing apps. However given the timeframe, it can be safely said that this category has something to do with whatever is announced merely 15 hours from now.
Catalog Spree, SkyMall, MTG Merchant are some of the apps in the new Catalogs App Store category. These apps were previously categorized under Lifestyle and Utilities. It should be noted that following a direct link to the category in question shows a list with no apps on it, which is more proof that we will only know for sure once Apple has made the announcements on March 7, 2024.
